Instagram’s recently announced changes to their Terms of Service have made a number of their loyal users feel very uncomfortable. We’ve personally witnessed their response with the tens of thousands of photos that have been backed up & shared from Instagram via Pi.pe today.

Even if you’re not immediately concerned with Instagram’s updated TOS, you might still want to backup, print or share your Instagram collection. Here’s a brief tutorial on how to use our Pi.pe service to migrate your Instagram pictures in seconds.

1. Log-in to Pi.pe. We support authentication using your Google, Facebook, Yahoo & Mozilla Persona credentials, there’s no need to create an account.

2. Click on the Instagram logo & authenticate your account. tip: You can add additional Instagram accounts by clicking on the + symbol.

3. You can now select individual files or simply click on ‘Select All’ to copy your entire account.

4. You can now edit the Title, Description & Tags of individual images by clicking on the image preview, this step is optional.

5. Select the service or services that you’d like to copy use as the destination for your Instagram pics You’ll only need to authenticate the service one time. tip: You can add additional accounts for the same service by clicking on the + symbol when hovering over the logo.

6. We verify your authentication & available space on the Summary page, just choose ‘Start Transfer’ if you don’t see any issues.

7. That’s it you are done! We’ll transfer your media & send you an email when it’s been completed.

Bonus!: If you select the ‘Save this Pipeline’ option, we’ll automate the process & automatically transfer any new media added to Instagram to your specified services.

Liberate your Media with Pi.pe!

We’ve made OpenPhoto even more open by adding support as a Pi.pe service. You can now import photos into OpenPhoto or export photos out of OpenPhoto from any compatible Pi.pe service. This works with both http://openphoto.me & self-hosted OpenPhoto servers.

While the setup is pretty straightforward, it can be a little tricky if you’re not familiar with adding OAuth apps on your OpenPhoto server. Here’s a quick tutorial on setting up with Pi.pe.

1. Log-in to Pi.pe at http://pi.pe, you can sign-in with your Facebook, Google or Yahoo log-in.

2. You’re now going to need to generate an OAuth key, log-in to your OpenPhoto server & select ‘Applications’ from under the ‘Manage’ link on the top menu bar.

3. Now click on the ‘Create a new app’ button, give your app a name & choose to ‘Create and Approve’.

4. Click on the ‘View’ link to the right of your new application to view the credentials (btw, these credentials are invalid).

5. Now go back to http://pi.pe & click on the OpenPhoto logo to start the authentication process.

6. Give the account a nickname, this can be anything. Just copy your hostname URL for the ‘Host’ value, e.g. http://twinkie.openphoto.me/. Now just copy all of the key, secret & token fields from OpenPhoto to the Pi.pe dialog & select ‘Submit’.

7. That’s it you’re done! You can now access your OpenPhoto server for import & export from compatible Pi.pe services. Tip: Hover over the service logo & select the + symbol to add a second OpenPhoto server configuration.

We don’t normally support self-hosted servers so this is experimental for us, please let us know if you encounter any issues at http://support.pi.pe. By sure to checkout our brief tutorial if you’re new to Pi.pe & would like to see how it’s used for media migration.

We’re introducing a new Pixelpipe capability into public beta today. The feature allows you to quickly select any photos, video or audio files that are currently hosted on Pixelpipe & export them in bulk to a selection of 20 of our most popular services.

We’ve offered the ability to export media we host for years now, this was however a one at a time process. While this feature isn’t for everyone, users that have accumulated thousands of uploads with us over the years will appreciate the ability to export them up with just a few clicks.

To try out the feature just visit http://pixelpipe.com/export. This has been designed as a desktop or tablet experience, you can however torture yourself with a tiny UI if you insist on doing everything from your phone.

Looking for a place to host your media? For a general storage solution we’ve found that SugarSync is a great & is well supported on a variety of mobile platforms.

This is a beta so please get back to us at beta@pixelpipe.com if you encounter any issues or have suggestions.

Here’s a sample of the export process.

Select Media:
