Posting through Mauku & other Twitter clients to Pixelpipe

January 26, 2010 · 2 Comments

We’re opening up a number of our supported APIs to the public and are starting with Twitter. You can now post through Pixelpipe from popular Twitter clients that allow you to set the service including Mauku, Spaz & Tweetie 2 by simply setting the endpoint URL to http://api.pixelpipe.com/services/twitter/ & logging in with your Twitter credentials.

The big advantage of posting through Pixelpipe is that you can now post to over 25 services at the same time you update your Twitter status. For example you could setup your Facebook, MySpace & Yahoo! Meme accounts with Pixelpipe & update all when you post to Twitter. You can even update your blog from your Twitter client (see tips).

Setup is similar for each app however here are the specifics to get Mauku on the Nokia N900 setup and plugged-in.

1. Open Mauku select the blue arrow on the top menu & choose “Publishers”
2. Select “New” & then “Advanced”
3. Set Pixelpipe as the name and Twiiter as the provider & then “OK”
4. Set the URL to http://api.pixelpipe.com/services/twitter/ and the Password & Login to your Twitter credentials

5. Now click on the blurry area on top to return to the Mauku, if you set things up you’ll see your Twitter feed in the Overview.

Now everytime you post we’ll route the post through Pixelpipe enabling you to post to multiple services at the same time.

Tips:

- We’ll create a Pixelpipe if you don’t have one with these credentials, you can log-in and add services or change your settings at pixelpipe.com or m.pixelpipe.com for mobile users.

- You can use Routing Tags to override your default services and post to specific services or groups. For example including @facebook,@plurk,@jaiku in the body would send the post to the three mentioned services however not to Twitter (we’ll strip out the tags). More on Routing Tags can be found on our blog.

- By default a blog service wouldn’t accept a status update however you can override the behavior by including the routing tag for the service eg. @wordpress,@blogger,@twitter would send the post to both blogs & Twitter.

- You can create groups by giving the same Routing Tag to multiple services and force routing with just one tag

Pixelpipe for Android feature updates

October 2, 2009 · 1 Comment

We’ve released updates to Pixelpipe Pro & Lite applications to the Android Market with a number of new features and optimizations.

The big new feature is that we’ve added the ability to include geo-location along with status/micro-blog updates & blog updates to over 30 services, we’ve been doing this for sometime with post with photos however have introduced the feature for text only updates as well.

The Geo-Status feature works by enabling the “Geo On” button when posting to Pixelpipe. We’ll then include a link to a pi.pe page with a Google map for services that don’t yet support geo updates like Facebook & Blogger. For services like Friendfeed (& Twitter soon) that do support geo-tagging we will pass the coordinates to the services via APIs which will display a map along side the post. This feature is initially exposed on our new Android clients however will be rolled out to our integrations with Nokia and iPhone soon.

New features:

- Ability to include geo-location along with status/micro-blog updates, blog posts and even e-mails.

- You can now select your destinations on a per image, video or audio file basis. This is available from the Pixelpipe app by choosing “Upload to..” and from the “Share” menu found in the Gallery, Camera and most 3rd party applications

- Sign-up & Sign-in both are executed with-in the application. This provides better performance and a cleaner sign-up/sign-in flow.

- Now in simplified and traditional Chinese with distribution through NetDragon in China

Tips:

- Press the menu key in the application to switch between the photo, video & audio views

- Only the service that support the media type you’re uploading will appear in the “Upload to…” menu

Including Photo, Video, Audio, PDFs & more with your status and micro-blog posts

January 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Hot on the heels of our recently announced support for text only posts to status & micro-blog services we’ve just released a new feature that allows you to include media and other files with your post. Since the majority of these services only support short text based posts we’ll publish your post for you and include a shortened link back to the original file hosted on our server. We display your photo & automatically playback video and audio files and provide a link back to the original for other file types.

Here’s a quick rundown on the capabilities and some tips on usage:

Q. What services are supported?

A. This feature is currently supported with our integrations with Twitter, MySpace, FriendFeed, Jaiku, Ping.fm, kwippy, Rejaw, identi.ca, plerb, brightkite & Facebook. More coming soon!

Q. How’s it work?

A. Use any of our massive suite of applications for desktop and mobile to post photos and video to any of your pixelpipe destinations. If the service is a micro-blog or status service that only supports text we’ll automatically create a link back to the file to be included with your post. Here’s an example of a landing page that includes video http://tinyurl.com/88fygo

Q. Can I post to multiple services at the same time?

A. Yes of course, you can send to any or all at the same time and even multiple accounts on the same service. With one post you can update your twitter, Jaiku, Facebook… status with either plain text or text with linked media.

Q. How do I send a document or file?

A. We currently support the ability to post non-photo/video content either via the ‘Quick Post’ dialog on pixelpipe.com or via MMS/Email using your private upload address. Your personal upload address can be found under settings after logging into pixelpipe.com.

Q. What if I only want to send some uploads to these services?

A. We have a feature called “Routing Tags” that enables you to selectivly send your uploads to individual services or groups by simply tagging the item in advance of upload. More on this feature can be found here.

Q. Any tips for usage?

A. If you are a heavy uploader then we recommend disabling automatic delivery to these services and activating them when needed by use of routing tags. You’ll save your followers from receiving individual updates everytime you upload through Pixelpipe.
